AhtnaSTS Armed Security Guard Elias Trevino received a Level 1 STAR Award for his detection and response to a potentially disastrous situation.
On January 22, 2019, while assigned to post at the Port Isabel Detention Center’s main gate, Trevino noticed that the driver of a vehicle approaching for inspection appeared to be disoriented. While speaking to the subject, Trevino noted the driver’s speech was slurred and saw alcoholic beverages in plain view. Trevino asked the subject to pull out of the right-of-way, where he took the keys and secured the vehicle. When local law enforcement arrived, the subject was taken into custody. It was also learned that the subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Trevino’s actions and the resulting positive outcome demonstrates an exemplary regard for the preservation of human life and an outstanding dedication to service the AhtnaSTS mission.
