LOGO DESIGN CONTEST

The Logo Design Contest, which was originally scheduled to end on May 22, 2011, has now been extended, although there is no definitive deadline for submissions. We will continue to accept submissions as long as they adhere to the mandatory criteria and are representative of the chosen name of the new company, the Ahtna region, and the Ahtna people.

Earlier this year, the Ahtna, Inc. Board of Directors and the management teams of both Ahtna, Inc. and Ahtna Development Corporation announced the name of our new holding company: AHTNA NETIYE'. Netiye' is an Ahtna Athabascan word that means "Our Strength" and symbolizes the unity of the Ahtna people.

This new company will provide support and services to Ahtna businesses, and this new name truly exemplifies the company's vision, the mission of Ahtna, Inc., and the spirit and culture of the Ahtna people.

Now that a name has been chosen, the Ahtna, Inc. Logo Design Contest will help with the selection of a company logo for Ahtna Netiye'.

*This contest is open exclusively to Ahtna Shareholders, Ahtna Shareholder descendants, Ahtna Shareholder spouses, and any and all current employees of Ahtna, Inc. The Contest will remain open to all eligible entrants, and, as stated, will close at a date to be determined in the near future. The winner will receive one (1) round trip airline ticket to anywhere in the United States.

General Design Guidelines:

  1. Utilize the values represented in the company name
  2. Incorporate traditional Ahtna themes & reflect on six (6) values: strength, vitality, ethics, professionalism, knowledge, and leadership
  3. Be appropriate for a professional business setting
  4. Original designs only - no copying allowed
  5. Be easy to manipulate and scale for print and web production

Any eligible persons who'd like to enter are required to complete a consent and release form when submitting their suggestions. Forms are provided below and may be downloaded and printed from your computer. Forms may also be obtained at our Glennallen or Anchorage offices, or you can request copies be mailed to you by calling Melissa at (907) 868-8250. Logo Design Contest Official Rules

1. Eligibility. The Ahtna, Inc. Logo Design contest ("the Contest") is open exclusively to Ahtna Shareholders, Ahtna Shareholder Descendants, Ahtna Shareholder Spouses, and any and all current employees of Ahtna, Inc. or any Ahtna Subsidiary company. To be eligible to participate in the Contest, entrants must complete a Contest Consent and Release Form and Entrant Form. Forms may be submitted to Ahtna, Inc., Attn Logo Design Contest, via mail, email, in person or fax:

The Contest will remain open to all eligible entrants, and will close at a date to be determined.

IF AN ENTRANT FAILS TO COMPLETE ALL REQUIRE FIELDS OF THE FORMS, ENTRANT IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST OR WIN THE PRIZE.

2. How to Enter. Entries must be submitted with a properly completed and signed Contest Consent and Release Form and Entrant Form - no exceptions. There is no limitation to entries that can be submitted by an entrant.

When using e-mail to submit an entry, the limit on attachment sizes is 5MB total. If your submission(s) exceeds this size, even after compression, please split into separate files and note clearly in your e-mails that you are doing so, along with directions to help piece together their actual appearance. Entries are preferred as a scalable vector graphic in EPS or JPEG format, although TIFF, PNG, BMP, or PDF formats may also be used. If submitting a hard copy sketch, please use clear white paper with no background images that may compete with your design.

Entries must be submitted in final, camera-ready form, with little to no touch-up needed once submitted – clean and clear-cut designs will work best. Any colors used must be CMYK only, and capable of being reproduced in grayscale/black and white. Up to four (4) colors may be used in design; use of halftones or gradients is not recommended.

An explanation of logo design is advised but not required and must be provided separately.

3. Disclaimer. Ahtna, Inc., all participating sponsors and any of their subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, professional advisors, employees and agencies will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled or distorted or damaged transmissions or entries; (b) telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or other computer- or communications-related malfunctions or failures; (c) any Contest disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by events beyond the control of Ahtna, Inc.; or (d) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest.

4. Grand Prize. There will be only one prize (the "Grand Prize") awarded in the Contest. The Grand Prize consists of one (1) round trip airline ticket. Destination to anywhere within the United States may be chosen by winner, at the discretion of Ahtna, Inc., with a minimum of 30 days advance notice for processing purposes.

Winner will be notified as soon as a winning entry is chosen, and will be notified using contact information provided within their personal consent and release form. Ahtna, Inc. is not responsible, for purposes of notification and delivery of the Grand Prize, in the event that the Contest winner provides any incorrect, expired, or otherwise invalid contact information.

ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY PRIZES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER.

All entries will be submitted to the Ahtna, Inc. Restructuring Committee, which will narrow the possible winners to five (5), based on the proposed logo design's potential impact, practicality, and alignment with existing and/or proposed branding strategy. The five (5) selections will be presented to the Ahtna, Inc. Board of Directors for final selection of a winner. The Ahtna, Inc. Board decision is final in all matters.

Ahtna, Inc. reserves the right not to select a winner, in its sole discretion. Ahtna, Inc. further reserves the right to select a winner, but then not to use that name, in its sole discretion.

5. Criteria. The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for a new company Ahtna, Inc. is establishing which will provide support and services to our businesses for their continued success. Only entries that meet the following criteria and that comply with all other contest rules are eligible to be selected as the winning entry. The logo design must:

  • Incorporate and be representative of the values represented in the company name, Ahtna Netiye'. Netiye' is an Ahtna Athabascan word that means "Our Strength" and symbolizes the unity of the Ahtna people;
  • Include traditional Ahtna themes, incorporating and reflecting the history, tradition, and culture of the Ahtna people and the Ahtna region; and reflecting six (6) characteristics: strength, vitality, ethics, professionalism, knowledge, and leadership;
  • Be appropriate for a professional business setting;
  • Be an original creation of the entrant – designs cannot be similar to or incorporate design elements already used by other logos or copyrighted materials, including those currently used by Ahtna, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries;
  • Be easy to use, handle, and manipulate for purposes of high quality production for web, print, and other media or marketing and advertising mediums;
  • Be registrable as a trademark, which shall be determined by Ahtna, Inc.

6. Ahtna, Inc. Ownership of Entries. All entries and other materials (the "Entry Materials") submitted by entrants become the property of Ahtna, Inc. upon submission. Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, entrants acknowledge that they will not challenge Ahtna, Inc.'s rights to use, modify and make derivative works of the Entry Materials, understanding that Ahtna, Inc. will not separately compensate them or any other person or entity. Ahtna, Inc.'s rights, with respects to entries, include, but are not limited to: (a) the exclusive right to use, publish, display or reproduce on products, packaging, advertising for purposes of trade and any other lawful purpose; (b) the exclusive right to alter, revise or change entries in any way; (c) the exclusive right to secure trademark and copyright registrations and other rights for entries anywhere throughout the world; (d) the exclusive right to license, exploit, sell, assign, or otherwise dispose of entries or any of the said rights included therein for any purpose which Ahtna, Inc. may see fit; and (e) any and all subsidiary rights to entries.

7. General Release. By entering the Contest, entrants release Ahtna, Inc., participating sponsors and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agencies (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Contest or acceptance, possession, or use of any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.

8. Use of Winner's Name, Likeness, etc. Except where prohibited by law, entry into the contest constitutes permission to use winners' name, address, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation. As a condition of being awarded the Grand Prize, except where prohibited by law, winners' will be required to execute a consent to the use of their name, address, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation.

9. Miscellaneous. The Contest and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted according to the laws of the State of Alaska. Any dispute arising under these rules shall be brought in the court of competent jurisdiction in the State of Alaska.

Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Ahtna, Inc., which are final and binding in all respects. Ahtna, Inc. reserves the right to change these Official Rules at any time, in its sole discretion, and to suspend or cancel the Contest or any entrant's participation in the Contest should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond Ahtna, Inc.'s control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Contest or Ahtna, Inc. otherwise becomes (as determined in its sole discretion) incapable of running the Contest as planned.

Entrants who violate these Official Rules, tamper with the operation of the Contest or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to Ahtna, Inc., the Contest or any other entrant (in each case as determined in Ahtna, Inc.'s sole discretion) are subject to disqualification from entry into the Contest. Ahtna, Inc. reserves the right to lock out persons whose eligibility is in question or who have been disqualified or are otherwise ineligible to enter the Contest. 10. Contest Sponsor. The sponsor of the Contest is Ahtna, Inc., 406 W Fireweed Ln, Anchorage, AK 99503. Ahtna, Inc. is an Alaska Native Regional Corporation established by Congress under terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, that represents, preserves, develops, and supports the collective interests of its Shareholders, the Ahtna Native Villages within the Ahtna Region, and any and all of its business interests within and outside the state of Alaska.
