Hunting Note: Ahtna does not allow hunting on its lands except for a special Bison permit and Predator Control Hunting.

However, a land crossing permit can be purchased to cross Ahtna lands to reach public lands in the area you would like to hunt.

No taking of any game is allowed while crossing Ahtna land on your way to public lands, with two exceptions:

(1) Unit 13 Predator Control Permit

Limited to wolf and you must hold a valid Predator Control Permit from the State of Alaska, and a valid Ahtna Permit. You must have both permits to take wolves on Ahtna land within Unit 13.

There is no charge to State Predator Control Permit holders. You must notify the Ahtna Land Department personnel of any taking after your animal has been reported to the State.

(2) Predator Hunting Permit

All other predator hunting requires a $100.00 permit fee to hunt predators on Ahtna land. No trapping by non-Shareholders is allowed.

This includes the taking of wolf, brown bear, and black bear. You must have a valid Ahtna Predator Hunting Permit, in addition to all State required licenses, tags or permits to take wolf or bear on Ahtna land.

Permits Approval

Ahtna reserves the right to withhold approval of any permit request.

Ahtna also reserves the right to end all permitting of predator control/hunting within Ahtna lands at any time, should large prey/predator ratios reach sustainable numbers. This determination will be made prior to issuing annual predator control/hunting permits.

Ahtna lands are private lands. As such, Ahtna lands are subject to the jurisdiction of the State of Alaska, therefore, all hunting activity must be conducted in accordance with State wildlife, hunting and fishing regulations. It is your responsibility to ensure you are in compliance with State laws and regulations while performing such activity on Ahtna land.

Ahtna will continue to work closely with the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game to ensure responsible fish and game management practices within Ahtna land.
